Toyota has a new HiLux hero.

The HiLux GR Sport is now on sale in Australia, complete with a long list of upgrades. Along with significant suspension changes designed to make the GR Sport more capable off-road, its 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine packs more power than before – now developing 165kW and 550Nm.

Although that’s a welcome boost from the 150kW and 500Nm on offer in the standard car, it’s not what you’d call standout when you can get a regular Ford Ranger with a more powerful V6 diesel engine, and the Ranger Raptor with a fire-breathing twin-turbo petrol V6.

You can see what’s coming here, right? To see how the most powerful HiLux you can buy in Australia stacks up alongside its big rival from the Blue Oval, we lined the GR Sport up against a Ranger Bi-Turbo, a Ranger V6, and a Ranger Raptor.

Watch the video above to see how the HiLux fared, and check the tables below for a data breakdown on each of the cars tested.
